HILEM is equipped with faclilities and excellent technical equipment. The major equipment and apparatus are 343sets, among which, there are 27 large-size, high accuracy and rare ones. In addition, the national largest hydraulic laboratory is set in HILEM, including 4 high head test stands that are of the first class in the world, and these test stands could meet the needs of carring out all kinds of model tests.

　　In the field of full air-cooling reseach for large hydro-generating unit, HILEM owns not only serveral sets of ventilation models which are able to analyse the ventilation system of prototype but also the word largest 3000 ton thrust bearing test stand which is able to carry out the tests on thrust bearing with high load under various speed and varous load conditions, and the 800MW evaporative cooing test stand which is able to analyse the cooling methods for large units with capacity higher than 700MW, and the water lubricating thrust bearing test stand and water lubricationg transverse bearing test stand are used for analysing bearing applied to marine motor.

　　In the research of insulation, we have the high-voltage test hall that can do research on any kinds of insulation in high and low voltage coil, and the mechanical properties research. In this hall, there are 800 KV impulse voltage generators, high precision constant temperature drying ovens, 300 KV / 300 KVA high voltage power frequency transformers, high voltage ac motor stator coil interturn testers, and Swiss-2809A high precision semi-automatic balanced bridges.

　　Shimadzu Precise Universal Testing Machine, various material microscopes including Olympus inverted PMG3, 30KW high-temperature box resistance furnace and high-temperature desktop resistance heat-treatment furnace and WEW-2000 tension tester are equipped for studing metal materials.

　　There are UCP-1350 NC Machining Centre, MAHO-700C NC Boring-milling Machine, XHAE2425×40 NC Gantry Machining Center, a BMC-R2 CNC boring machine, MAR-630H Horizontal Machining Centre, MAR-500H Horizontal Machining Centre, VB-610 Vertical Machining Centre, LBR-370M Lathe Processing Centre, FTC-350 Lathe Processing Centre, 3.5m NC vertical lathe and other large-precision NC equipments in the machining, which can do the NC machining for model runner blades of hydraulic turbines.
